Scrool documentation

Start using Scrool.

Scrool puts a floating touchpad and cursor on your Android screen. Learn the basics here, then open a separate guide when you want to change a setting.

The basics

What Scrool does

Scrool is an Android accessibility app that lets you control the phone from a comfortable spot. Its floating touchpad moves a cursor on the screen, so you can reach targets without moving your hand to them.

  • Move a visible cursor with the touchpad.
  • Tap, hold, swipe, pinch, spread, or use Android actions at the cursor.
  • Hide the touchpad and bring it back from a screen edge when you need more space.
  • Use different behavior while the keyboard is open or inside a particular app.

Accessibility access is required. Scrool uses Android’s accessibility service to draw the overlay and perform gestures on your behalf. Android asks you to enable this access during setup.

First use

Get started

  1. Open Scrool and follow the setup instructions.
  2. Enable Scrool in Android’s Accessibility settings, then return to the app.
  3. Turn on the touchpad from the app home screen.
  4. Move your finger on the pad to move the cursor. Put the cursor over a target, then use the touchpad area or center button assigned to the action you want.
  5. Open Settings when you want to adjust the pad, cursor, gestures, actions, or edge triggers.

Use the in-app playground to try scrolling, zooming, tapping, and keyboard behavior before using Scrool in another app.

Using the overlay

How it works

  • Touchpad
    • Use different areas of the floating pad to trigger actions.
    • Assign taps, holds, and flings to the areas that feel comfortable.
    • Two-finger tap the pad to enter resize mode. Drag the pad to move it or a corner handle to resize it; adjust the cursor area there too. Tap outside the controls to finish.
  • Cursor
    • Slide your finger on the pad to move the cursor to a target.
    • The cursor shows where your tap or gesture will land.
  • Actions
    • Assign an action to tap, hold, and fling gestures in each touchpad zone.
    • Choose actions such as clicking, scrolling, zooming, or using Android navigation controls.
    • Set actions to suit the way you use your phone.
  • Edge triggers
    • Use the HIDE TOUCHPAD action when you want more screen space.
    • Drag inward from an enabled screen edge to bring it back.
    • Choose which edge triggers the pad in settings.

Defaults and overrides

Which settings are active?

General settings are the baseline. Keyboard settings override them while the on-screen keyboard is open, and app-specific settings override them in the selected app. Any values you leave unchanged continue to use the general settings.

  • General settings: the baseline used everywhere.
  • Keyboard settings: override the general settings while the on-screen keyboard is open.
  • App specific settings: override the general settings in the selected app. A setting you leave unchanged continues to inherit the general value.

See Keyboard settings or App specific settings for examples and reset instructions.
